I had the idea, of putting life into classic / romantic/ figurative Sculptures, which are by default objects made by human craft. During this journey i was wondering “what makes something alive?” “what makes a human a human?” I had associations of BEATING HEARTS and BLOOMING NATURE / BIOLOGY. But honestly i was kind of stuck in process and afraid to become to cheesy.
My roommate told me “why can’t you be cheesy? if you like cheesy and romantic?”
Meanwhile, i was painting masks with anatomically almost correct veins, and pounding hearts. But somehow the outcome was not satisfying. While i was painting i really focused on the colours, so the first thing i was sure about were the colours of pastellish rosey and pink nature. But a digital palette on Procreate,  however well adjusted, does not come near the palette of real blooming flowers.
So i started collaging roses. Added Eyes to the Mask, which now slightly move, when the trackers are searching for the eyes, which gives a Spark of Life to the Sculpture. Also it makes real Humans look creepy and i liked that effect.
There is Horror Movie called “Midsommar”.
This movie  is full of so much Emotion that it gets uncomfortable and overwhelming for the viewer. This inspired me to call the mask MIDsommar, because the slight eye movement of the sculpture  might make you feel uncomfortable.

Of course i was thrilled and flattered to see my Mask in Action,
on Instagram:

I very much enjoyed all the inspiring Zoom sessions with Nina and the fellow students and external speakers, especially the one where we talked about the essay of David O’ Reilly, who is a great inspiring artist.

Finally i was motivated by his work to try out and build an instagram Filter.
I always enjoyed Facefilters but i was intimidated by the unknown and thought it was really complex in the making. So i was happy to find out that i and basically everybody could manage to create one.
Also the UdK Face Filter Courses of Moritz Tontsch
( https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lEhbhQ8jEcJE1Y-aWeHTh5LoboVAKpox ) helped me quite a lot to start and keep going.
I always quite struggle on working out on one idea, because i really can’t decide which one is worth pursuing. So i usually go by “try and error”, but when there is a lot of error the process is frustrating and embarassing sometimes.
So i kind of decided on doing something i find aesthetically pleasing, harmonious as a concept, but with a little creepy twist, yet still coherent.

So one of the key quotes i noted, was from Nina Juric:
“You have to be the CRITIC & THE MAKER + But not at the same time”

STEP BY STEP GUIDE, HOW TO APPLY THE FILTER
1. Go on this link:  https://www.instagram.com/sophiemarleneoriginale/
2. Open it with your instagram App. Or search for my account “sophiemarleneoriginale”.
3. Then click on the little smiley guy, above the post, as seen on the first picture, with the purple circle around it.
4. It will open my filter collection. Click on the picture with the name “MIDsommar” on it.
5. It will open a preview video, now there’s a button on the bottom of the preview video. It should say something like “Try it Out”.
6. Then you can make a video, and save it to your phone, or post it in the story. Thanks!
