SciFi-Coffee

Final Contribution

vfx | 3D | Blender | After Effects

It all started with me being really tired.

In the need of a cup of coffee I wondered:
Wouldn’t it be nice if I were able to see what is going on inside the coffee machine?

So I came up with the idea to film a short movie of a person making a cappuccino with an espresso machine and adding visual effects to the footage. The concept was to create the insides of the machine in the 3D modeling software Blender, sketching UI elements in Illustrator and compositing everything in After Effects. Since I was new to 3D modeling this was a big opportunity to really learn and test things out in Blender and realising how diverse this software is.

The result is a science fiction styled short film about making a cappuccino with an espresso machine that has a glass front, which allows you to see what happens inside of it. Besides the 3D model of the pipes there are UI elements on the upper part of the machine. It consists of a system boot animation, as well as a water level meter, a clock and media player controls. On the top is  a progression bar that fills up to see when the coffee is ready and in the center is a pressure gauge that shows how strong and hot the air is for frothing the milk.
